I will publish many pictures of Cape Town and some of the greater Western Cape. Table Mountain, seen above is nominated as one of the new seven wonders of the world. It is magnificient. We have many mountain ranges and often have to cross them on journeys. They are all very beautiful and majestic but there is something special about Table Mountain.
It has an accessible and friendly appearance: and it is... be warned though that you should take every precaution you would take when hiking on any other mountain (except ones covered in snow). People often get lost, or fall and even die on Table Mountain.
Clouds and severe wind are perhaps the most dangerous elements you can encounter. Cloud can descend rapidly and visibility will become zero when this happens.
Do not go on the mountain alone, without informing others of your plans, without provisions such as water, food and a warm jacket or when it is cloudy or windy.
I visited the mountain on my birthday. It was delightful. At one point I suddenly came to within one step of walking down Plattekloof Gorge when I left the designated path to observe an abseil.
The next day there was news of a hiker found that same afternoon after a fall from a similar cliff.
